Hi, I'm starting to plan my next adventure and a 21 day +/- trip to the Stan Region sounds interesting. My wife and I traveled across China to as far west as Kashgar and we toured Georgia and Armenia so the Stan region seems like the next logical choice. I'm 60 years old and I will most likely be traveling on my own as my wife died a couple years ago and I doubt any of my friends would want to join me as this would be way too adventurous for them - as far as I am concerned, they are the ones who are missing out. In Feb this year I toured India and Sri Lanka on my own and in Oct. 2018, I completed a trek in Nepal on my own that my wife and I had planned, it would have been our 3rd. I like seeing both the culture and scenery of places I visit and I don't mind going off the beaten track if necessary... Do you have any suggestions and a possible itinerary. Thanks, Tom, Vancouver, Canada

We started in lovely Almaty (include a day trip to Alatau National Park and Big Almaty Lake) as great city to walk and explore. We loved the Renion Park Hotel and it was close to the fabulous Arasan Spa which we enjoyed even more the second time when we knew the system. Advantour organised the car/driver to the Kazakstan/Kyrgyzstan border, walk across/entry formalities and meet second driver at the other side, super easy! Funky, interesting Bishkek was great to walk from the slightly outside the centre Art Hotel (day trip to to Ala-Too National Park is great). We flew to Tashkent to save time. Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara are fabulous cities to explore - hotel location can be pretty important if you plan to mainly walk as we did (20km per day was our average). Hotel Bibikhamun in Samarkand has the perfect location (dine on their upper terrace at least once for the night view), Lotte City Hotel Palace in Tashkent was great for a quality hotel and central location (Radisson Blu was further out and a bit in need of renovation), Komil Boutique Hotel in Bukhara was great and rooms were decorated in the Oriental style. We researched restaurants before coming and our favourites were Afsona (Tashkent - we ate here three times), Plantan in Samarkand, Xon Atlas (upper terrace for lunch with views) and Ayvan Restaurant (dinner) in Buhkara. We are pescatarians and had read that we would struggle with meals - absolute bunk, food was spectacular and each country makes its own wine) We included a visit to Khujand (starting and ending in Tashkent, again organised by Advantour), interesting but not of the level of the other places we visited. We would have loved to continue by train to Khiva, then to the Gates of Hell and Ashgabat but time was against us. Instead we flew from Tashkent to fabulous Baku (Art Gallery Hotel and the incredible Sumakh restaurant), then Istanbul and a final 10 days in Switzerland. Advantour was great for arranging train and car/driver portions of the trip but the rest was easy to research and organise online. I did the trip with my 29 year old daughter and two females had zero issues here. Simply fabulous part of the world, enjoy the research and visit!

I went in early September - warm & comfortable during the day & cool at night. It’s good time if you want to do some hiking. It’s the fruits season too - sweetest, juiciest local fruits like melons, peaches, plums, grapes, etc, I have ever tasted! December is cold like our North American temperatures!

I am trying to travel in Uzbekistan and have a great proposal from Adventure. Unfortunately, when I try to lock in my reservations with them, my visa keeps getting declined. My bank has authorized the charges, but they keep getting declined on the website sent to me by the travel agency. Has anyone encountered this? How did you pay? Should I just wait until I get to Tashkent to pay cash and hope the arrangements can still be made?

Hi there I travelled with them two times to Georgia and Uzbekistan. For Georgia I could not make the payment with US credit cards. The bank think it is fraud so that is why declines. I couldn’t send western union because they think is scam so I had to wire money thru my Wells Fargo account and it work smooth but I had to pay the wire bank fees.
