While being back in the Islanders locker room certainly feels the same for Matt Martin this training camp, the circumstances are a bit different this time around.

Bo Horvat centered Anthony Duclair and Mat Barzal in Roy’s first crack at creating forward lines. Simon Holmstrom was with Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri, while Anders Lee, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Pierre Engvall stayed put after ending the season together.

Matt Martin’s Islanders career might not be over quite yet. The Islanders are bringing Martin to training camp on a PTO, general manager Lou Lamoriello said Friday, giving him the chance to make the team and continue a decorated Islanders career.

Day three of Islanders training camp is here, and the intensity has only continued to ramp up. There was even more physicality and intensity throughout today’s scrimmage (which finished tied 4-4).

The Islanders opened prospect (plus Tsyplakov and Kinkaid) camp Thursday, and Friday general manager Lou Lamoriello gave one of his rare interviews with media. There was concern about Ilya Sorokin among the internets — Elliotte Friedman offering that the Isles goalie may be “battling something” — but Lamoriello said it is a minor “upper body” workout injury and of no concern.
