The tropical disturbance over the Caribbean continues to slowly organize. It’s likely to become Sara, the 18th named storm of the Atlantic season. It will stay over/near the western Caribbean & eastern Central America, possibly the Yucatan Peninsula through this week.

Even so, the threat of a strong tropical storm this time of year is a rare and gloomy event for Florida residents as the peak of hurricane season runs from early August through mid-September. The season ends Nov. 30.

These live maps from the FOX Forecast Center show the latest information and models on Tropical Depression Nineteen, which is expected to become Tropical Storm Sara on Thursday.

Channel 9 meteorologists are monitoring an area of tropical disturbance south of Florida. Tropical disturbance 99L is spinning in the Caribbean, and will likely become Sara over the next several days across the western Caribbean.

Tropical Depression Nineteen has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is forecast to continue strengthening, according to the National Hurricane Center.
