A few severe storms will be possible starting late tonight in Alabama. Damaging winds, heavy rain and a brief tornado will all be possible, according to the National Weather Service. West Alabama will have the best chance at seeing stronger storms, and the threat is expected to decrease as you head eastward.

The weather service expects tonight’s storms to bring a half-inch to an inch of rainfall for a wide area in Alabama. A few spots in southwest Alabama could get as much as 2 inches. The rain could help the drought from worsening in some areas that get an inch or more, but it won’t erase it altogether.

More areas in Alabama see extreme drought conditions
The extreme drought areas were seen in parts of Pickens, Greene, Tuscaloosa, Hale and Perry counties. At this time in 2024, there were no areas in Alabama experiencing severe or extreme drought.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuscaloosa usually sees its first frost around Nov. 15. But Alabama weather can be full of surprises. The earliest frost on record hit Oct. 19, 2022, while the latest didn't arrive until Dec. 16, 1998, nearly three months later than average.
