Notre Dame didn't have a strong showing in very many parts of the game when it was upset by Northern Illinois in South Bend. One bright spot however was Joshua Burnham, a defensive lineman who was making plays before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

Notre Dame improved to 3-1 on the season with a sloppy - yet convincing - victory over Miami (Ohio). For the third time in four games the Irish fell behind early, but in this game they bounced back and pulled away from Miami (Ohio). Notre Dame scored the final 28 points of the game in the win.
