Rep. Debbie Mayfield filed a lawsuit Thursday over state election officials blocking her from running in a special election to fill a Senate seat.

State Rep. Debbie Mayfield has asked the Florida Supreme Court to intervene after the Florida Department of State disqualified her in a Special Election in Senate District 19. The Melbourne Republican stressed urgency in a court petition, as a Republican Primary will be held on April 1.

House Republican Rep. Debbie Mayfield, who had filed to run in the special election scheduled for the state Senate seat she held for eight years before being term-limited out of office last year, has been informed by the Florida Department of State that she has been disqualified for the race.

The Melbourne Republican says the governor is thwarting her candidacy because she didn’t back him for president. DeSantis’ staff says term limits are keeping Mayfield out of the race.
