Freeman, dealt from the Guardians to the Rockies for Nolan Jones in March, came up clutch in his return to Progressive Field in Monday’s series opener. The designated hitter had two hits and three RBIs, including the game-winning single in the top of the ninth as the Rockies put up four in the frame for an 8-6 comeback win.
Jones, who went through spring training camp preparing for another year in the Colorado Rockies outfield, was traded to the Guardians shortly before the 2025 season began. The deal came together quickly and somewhat surprisingly for Cleveland, which sent Tyler Freeman to the Rockies.

Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase — a rumored MLB trade deadline target — has been placed on paid leave in connection with a sports-gambling investigation, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday. Clase is reportedly on leave through Aug. 31, per The Athletic's Zack Meisel.
