While large-cap stocks maintained their upward momentum for the fifth consecutive trading session, mid-cap and small-cap stocks struggled to sustain the rally. The Nifty Midcap 100 ended the session down 0.71% at 60,419 points, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 also closed lower at 19,357 points, down 0.42% compared to the previous closing price.

Indian equity markets were likely to open on a muted note, as indicated by GIFT Nifty futures, however, the record closing highs overnight on the Wall Street could boost sentiment.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session in the green after hitting fresh record highs. Nifty 50 closed at 25,939.05, while Sensex ended at 84,928.61. Nifty 50 is also around 60 points away from 26,

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a weak start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 25,925 level, a discount of nearly 20 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Nifty 50 was trading 4.25 points, or 0.21% lower at 25,883.35, and the Sensex was down 133.21 points, or 0.16% at 84,786.84.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session flat after hitting fresh record highs. Nifty 50 ended at 25,940.40, while Sensex ended at 84,914.04. Overnight, Wall Street indices Dow Jones and S&P 500 continued to post record highs.

The Sensex surged to a record high, closing above 85,000, while the Nifty crossed the 26,000 mark, driven by gains in banking, IT, and auto sectors. Strong earnings and economic indicators fueled the rally.

Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, dropped in opening trade on Wednesday. While BSE Sensex was trading above 84,700, Nifty50 was near 25,900.

Sensex and Nifty traded on a flat note on Wednesday after hitting record highs for last four sessions, as traders are expected to take a breather, while they look for cues on the strength of the U.S.

That apart, a widely followed global stock index rose to a record high and copper prices hit their strongest level in 10 weeks on Tuesday after China unveiled stimulus measures to support its economy.
