An unusual May nor’easter was pulling away from New England on Friday after soaking the region and setting some record cold temperatures. Massachusetts and Rhode Island received the most rain, getting at least several inches.

According to the Mount Washington Observatory, the summit picked up 7.8 inches of snow on Friday. The summit has picked up 11.9 inches of snow in May. On Thursday, weather observers at the region’s highest peak said the summit had picked up 4.1 inches of snow.
