Hundreds of flights were delayed and dozens canceled at Logan Airport in Boston on Saturday after Massachusetts was left with a blanket of snow overnight.
Parts of Massachusetts could see up to 5 inches of snow from a clipper system this weekend, according to the National Weather Service’s Boston office. The system will bring accumulating snow to southern New England from Friday night into Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 7:59 p.m. on Tuesday for snow until Wednesday at 2 a.m. for Worcester, Middlesex and Essex counties.
Snow showers begin to develop west to east as a fast-moving clipper arrives in the area beginning roughly between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight. Most of the conditions will begin as light, fluffy snow accumulating before drier air and scattered conditions take over.
Different parts of Massachusetts will see various amounts of snow today, the National Weather Service said. The meteorologist Matthew Belk said that Western Massachusetts and Central Massachusetts will receive more accumulated snow than Eastern Massachusetts or Cape Cod, adding that drivers in snowy areas should still be careful.
About 1-3 inches of snow is expected through Saturday in MetroWest and Greater Milford, according to Accuweather.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of Massachusetts ahead of an incoming Sunday night storm that will bring an icy mix to the region. The advisories will go into effect at 7 p.m. through early Monday morning.
