Snow, ice and frigid temperatures in December created challenges that caused thousands of donations to go uncollected, the Red Cross said in a Jan. 5 news release. At the same time, busy holiday schedules and seasonal illnesses have led to a reduction in donations, putting a significant strain on the organization's national blood inventory.
