Hellen Obiri of Kenya set a women’s course record to win the New York City Marathon on Sunday while compatriot Benson Kipruto won the men’s race by edging Alexander Mutiso in a photo finish.
Hellen Obiri finished the NYC Marathon in 2:19:51, besting the old mark of 2:22:31 set by Margaret Okayo in 2003.
Kipruto, an Olympic bronze medalist, narrowly beat fellow Kenyan Alexander Mutiso in the Pro Men's race, as both men finished with a time of 2:08:09.
