Two wildfires that sparked Saturday in southwestern Colorado have forced several communities across La Plata County to evacuate, according to fire officials.

Fire officials are calling this new fire the Kinikin Fire and it has closed U.S. 50 at Mile Marker 102, about 8 miles east of the center of the city of Montrose.

As emergency crews continue to gain containment on a series of wildfires in western Colorado, two new blazes have forced evacuations in La Plata County in the southwest region of the state, according to fire officials.
