Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell ran the second-fastest 100m hurdles time in history to open the Grand Slam Track Miami meet on Friday. Russell won in 12.17 seconds, five hundredths shy of Nigerian Tobi Amusan's world record set at the 2022 World Championships.

Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell set an American record in the 100-meter hurdles Friday, running 12.17 seconds for the second-fastest time in world history and boosting the nascent Grand Slam Track league.

Grand Slam Track, a new professional track and field league, was launched in 2024 by former American sprinter and four-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson. It features four slams in 2025 in which athletes compete for points based on their performances in six race groups.
