Emmanuel Clase, the dominant closer in the American League for the last four years, was placed on non-disciplinary leave Monday. He joined Luis Ortiz, a member of the starting rotation, who was placed on leave July 3.
Jones, who went through spring training camp preparing for another year in the Colorado Rockies outfield, was traded to the Guardians shortly before the 2025 season began. The deal came together quickly and somewhat surprisingly for Cleveland, which sent Tyler Freeman to the Rockies.
The Cleveland Guardians are reportedly more likely to trade Shane Bieber and Steven Kwan amid the Emmanuel Clase situation.
Tyler Freeman singled home the go-ahead run off Cade Smith as Colorado scored four times in the ninth inning, rallying the Rockies to an 8-6 victory over the Cleveland Guardians.
