State officials have identified the New Bedford man who was killed in a house fire on Monday. Alfred Martin, 88, of New Bedford, was named as the victim, according to the New Bedford Fire and Police departments, the State Fire Marshal and Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

A fatal house fire in New Bedford that claimed the life of an 88-year-old man was dertermined to be accidental.

Authorities on Tuesday identified a man who died in a two-alarm fire in New Bedford on Monday that may have started from smoking materials and electrical issues, officials said.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – One person is dead and four others were hospitalized following a fire in a multi-family home. Fire officials were called to Cotter Street just after 1pm this afternoon for reports of a fire.

A two-alarm fire ripped through a New Bedford home Tuesday night, injuring one firefighter and displacing five adults and five children, officials said. The firefighter was treated at the scene, fire officials said in a Facebook post.

New Bedford firefighters responded to a multi-family home on Cotter Street to find an intense fire erupting through the windows and roof, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
