With Silver Surfer debuting in the MCU in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, actress Julia Garner recently teased the character's "ambiguous energy" and her alliance with the film's big bad Galactus. She also admitted to be "confused" at first by the gender swap.

Garner won't be the first person to play the Silver Surfer in a live-action film. In 2007's "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," the body work of the Surfer was done by Doug Jones while Laurence Fishburne voiced the herald.

In First Steps, Garner plays Shalla-Bal, the immortal empress of the plant Zenn-La and Norrin’s lover. In the comics, Norrin becomes the Silver Surfer after becoming the herald of Galactus in exchange for him sparing their planet. The sacrifice meant the lovers were separated for eternity.
