Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum accused Google on Monday of violating the country’s sovereignty, leaving open the possibility of a lawsuit over the tech company labeling the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” in its maps feature.

The name change to Gulf of America is the first since the 1540s where various maps referred to it as the Mexican Gulf, Golpho de la Nueva España, and, finally Gulf of Mexico.

Apple Maps, Bing Maps and Google Maps have all changed their Maps software and apps to now display Gulf of America on the body of water that's been known as the Gulf of Mexico since the 16th century.
