Through investigation, rescuers said they learned the kayak belonged to a man, identified by family as Danny Marron of Yuma, Arizona, who left Mission Bay at about 11:45 a.m., KNSD reported. Marron’s wife, Eryka Arizaga, told KSWB he was a competition outrigger paddler.

A search for a man whose broken kayak was found in Mission Bay Friday afternoon was suspended Sunday evening by the U.S. Coast Guard, officials said. Coast Guard crew members along with San Diego lifeguards and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel searched more than 52 hours for the man,

The search for a man who went missing while kayaking near Mission Bay has been suspended, according to an update from the U.S. Coast Guard Monday morning.

An empty outrigger kayak was found Friday afternoon in Mission Bay and lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel have been searching for the missing boater.
