Amazon is breaking up its Wondery podcast studio as podcast consumption moves to video and celeb-driven shows, letting about 110 people go.

In a memo to staff obtained by Deadline, Steve Boom, Amazon’s vice president of audio, Twitch, and games, said the rise of video podcasting has created “different audience needs” and requires “distinct discovery, growth, and monetization strategies” compared to traditional audio-only narrative podcasts.

Wondery needs to focus more on “video podcasting” because “creator-led, video-integrated shows have different audience needs and require distinct discovery, growth, and monetization strategies compared to audio-first,
