The baseless conspiracy theories about Brigitte Macron's gender have taken a negative toll on the French first lady.
The claim was posted by an account called The General (@GeneralMCNews) who said: “BREAKING: French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Macron discovered that her tax account on France’s official government website listed her as a male under the name “Jean-Michel.” This post went viral with more than 8 million views as of Monday.
The false claims spread online allege that Mrs Macron was born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, the actual name of her older brother. The Macrons have for years been dogged by conspiracy theories that she was born Jean-Michel Trogneux, before taking the name Brigitte as a transgender woman.
