A rare winter storm churned across the U.S. Gulf Coast on Tuesday, bringing heavy snow, ice and wind gusts to a region where flurries are unusual, while much of the United States remained in a dangerous deep freeze.

Animals residing at the Houston Zoo were delighted - and a little perplexed - by a rare fall of snow. Video shared by the zoo showed a young Asian elephant named Teddy playing in his enclosure blanketed by snow.
