Members of Waterloo region's Caribbean association say they are feeling anxious and optimistic as Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica Tuesday afternoon.

At least seven people were reported dead due to the storm, including three in Jamaica, three in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic, according to the Associated Press.
