Open the Youtube video It’s been a dramatic couple of days in Baton Rouge, and now Brian Kelly has been fired as the LSU Tigers head coach. In turn, that has left one of the biggest jobs in all of college football open.
“Coach Kelly gave me an opportunity to come here,” Freeman said, via Mike Beradino of the South Bend Tribune. “I’m always rooting for him. But it’s also the profession we’ve chosen. We know that can be a result of choosing this profession.” Freeman said he hated to see Kelly lose his job, knowing that it would affect families and players.

Freeman has been the coach of the Fighting Irish since he took over for, ironically, Kelly in 2022. He’s directed them to a 38-12 record in the three-and-a-half seasons since, including finishing runner up in last year’s College Football Playoff.
