Strange New Worlds brought us to the prototype of the Holodeck, responsible for some fan-favorite episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Prototypes are not without their issues and kinks, hence the reason we don't see a "working" version until the days of TNG.

La'an Noonien-Singh was able to put the Gorn behind her in the Season 3 premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and it didn't take long for the Paramount+ series to find her a new storyline. The lieutenant seems to have entered a spicy new romance with one of her colleagues on the ship, though I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Anson Mount’s Capt. Pike tasks Christina Chong’s La’an to run the nascent program through the wringer to see how it holds up. La’an, who loves a 1960s murder mystery series featuring an investigator named Amelia Moon, has Martin Quinn’s Scotty upload those stories into the holodeck’s programming, which then creates a new mystery for her to solve.
