Book a tour at the Old Joliet Prison! Old Joliet Prison – 2024 Tour Season Preservation and construction experts have been busy all year long stabilizing, restoring and preserving several buildings at the Old Joliet Prison.

Please click on a calendar date to view available tours and times to register. The prison is closed for the winter and will reopen this spring. Please check back for tour availability and follow us on social media for opening day announcements.

Pre-scheduled, guided tours are offered via the Joliet Area Historical Museum for select areas of the Prison “campus” from the months of April – October. Walking tours last approximately 90 minutes.

A 90-minute walking tour of the Old Joliet Prison lead by docents and trained tour guides from the Joliet Area Historical Museum. This tour talks about the general history of the site from when it was first opened in 1858 till its closure in 2002.
