Carpeted stairs can make a home feel dated fast. Instead of running new carpet back down the stairs, we used tread toppers over the existing stair treads, added new risers, finished the ends with caps and stained everything in a dark walnut. It turns a basic staircase into a statement piece without rebuilding the entire stair system. We still have paint and railing updates coming, but this already changed the whole feel of the space.
