Carl Gottlieb didn’t just help write Jaws, he actually appeared in it. He played Meadows, the somewhat frazzled Amity Island newspaperman who pops up throughout the film. Spielberg liked having him on set because Gottlieb could adjust dialogue on the fly, so giving him a role kept him close to the action (and the shark problems).
